Seniors Housing Counsellor Training In Vancouver
I will be facilitating the Seniors Housing Counsellor training course hosted by the Seniors Services Society again this spring. Learn the features of seniors housing which can help you work with your senior clients. Topics include types of seniors housing, seniors housing providers, communication techniques and government programs and services. We will also be touring various types of housing and hearing from elders who have had their lives improved by the Seniors Services Society. We have changed the venue for this session and will be at Gordon Neighbourhood House at 1019 Broughton in the west end of Vancouver. Just a decade ago, Boston’s Beacon Hill Village established an innovative model to empower older Americans to age in their own homes, supported by an intentional community. Now, the national village movement has soared to a coast-to-coast membership of 11,000 in 55 different villages. With a 66% annual growth (ten-year average), the village movement is gathering an impressive head of steam. Free Seniors Travel Smart Training
TravelSmart For Seniors Pilot Program TransLink’s Access Transit Secretariat has partnered with the Burnaby Fall Prevention Society and Voices of Burnaby Seniors to launch TravelSmart for Seniors: a pilot project in which seniors train other seniors to use the public transportation system. The sessions cover fare zones; using ticket vending machines; security features on SkyTrain, buses and SeaBus; how to use the TransLink Trip Planner; and the responsibilities of front-line customer service staff. Participants will also go on a transit field trip, which provides a hands-on opportunity to explore many facets of public transportation. To help develop the training, members of Voices of Burnaby Seniors went on five different transit field trips, going from Burnaby to locations such as Lonsdale Quay and the Vancouver International Airport.
